My Food Posts

Of Familiarity, food & Dubai..

It’s just been a week since I moved to Dubai, and everyday something overwhelms me.

For lunch, we got veg thalis from this place called Kamat, my cousins husband told me that the cooks are Kanadigas. I tasted the food and I wanted to cry, such familiar taste, the taste Iv been brought up with, straight from Bangalore, right here in Dubai, on my plate!

There is something about familiarity that makes our heart twitch and eyes teary, like many people feel that their mum’s cooking is the best, but most of them don’t realise why they feel their mum’s cooking is the best. Could it be that all mum’s in the world are best cooks, well maybe, but it’s also because it’s what we have been used to eating, that defines our palette. Although I love this familiar taste of my mum’s food and of Bangalore, I am blessed and glad that I am also open to new tastes, that’s why I love Japanese, Korean, Thai, Chinese, American, Gujrati, Bengali, etc.. foods too, and there are very few things that I don’t like eating, one of which is plain curd..

Anyway, I am glad I have landed in Dubai. This city has the best food, the best food from Bangalore is here, I also spotted a restaurants from Bombay like Kailash Parbat, Haji Ali Juice Centre, Cream Centre, etc. here.. these are only the one’s that I know about, so I am able to identify them, so imagine all the best food places of the world might be here, as Dubai is a land of expats, so it's a melting pot of world cuisine.. that makes me so happy. I know Im finally in the right place! I am sold out to Dubai, and I have a great feeling about it.. in my stomach! :)
